Spring is here

{Tamarind, Tamarindus indica}

Seasons are still marked here in the tropics, ever so gently. You have to look and watch the land, plants and animals. It is subtle. The mountain sides of the dryer areas of the island slowly turned brown this winter during the dry season. It is starting to rain a bit more now and the birds are nesting and starting to hatch chicks. We've been waiting with great expectation to see some baby chicks from a broody hen and some poults from the turkey hens that have been disappearing into the jungle. We heard the chicks hatched a few days ago and the poults came walking out of the jungle with their mama, so we made sure to make a visit to our friends' place after church yesterday. Spring really is here!

While we were oohing and awwing over the babies, Ben disappeared up into a Tamarind tree to bring us down some treats. After cracking off the outside shell, you suck the sweet-sour jelly like substance off the seed. So good!
