Pieter, Juliana and I got to watch our friends take some surf lessons with Puntas Surf School, owned by my good friend Melissa Taylor. Every single one of them got up! They had such a great time. Rod and Chris, their teachers, were awesome. Ryan and Brittney were very impressed with how careful they were with the kids, which made it so much nicer for them to enjoy their own fun on the boards. Another day in Puerto Rico!

Exploring Maricao

{coffee blooms}

Puerto Rico is so much more than beaches. The mountains are full of beauty and a wonderful break from the burning sun. We explored Maricao today, starting with traditional pernil sandwiches from Erik's Bakery which we ate at La Torre de Piedra. Then we hiked to Salto Curet. Oh, I loved having teenagers around to carry Juliana up the stream! That is the hardest part of the hike and what fun to not have to do anything but enjoy myself.

How many places can you hit up on a Sunday in Rincon? First stop, the Farmer's Market. Next, church at Church Without Walls. Next, the coolest chicken and turkey farm. Ben climbed right up the Tamarind tree at Cassie and Britton's without any trouble and started throwing down some tamarind pods for everyone to try. One of nature's best candies! Last stop? Marinas Beach. To say the least, Pieter and Juliana are loving the fun and attention of these these big kids. We've come to decide that when friendship persists for twenty years, our children are cousins in the best sense possible. I can already see that this week is going to by too quickly!
