Castillo de San Cristóbal

{the dungeons}

{US flag, Puerto Rico flag, and Cross of Burgundy flag}

I had been talking to Pieter about San Juan and the fort that we would visit and he was pretty excited to get to Castillo San Cristóbal after breakfast. It was just a stone's throw away from our lodging. Mary had the very cool Senior Pass that got us all in for free at the San Juan National Historic Site. The views from the 27 acre site are spectacular. It is the largest fortification built by the Spanish in the New World. The garitas or sentry boxes were placed in just the right spots in the wall that surrounds the city. Every way your turn in this fort, there is a view of the ocean or the beautiful colonial buildings of this old city.
