Fun at the Zoo

We had a morning full of adventure at the zoo in Merida, Parque Zoológico del Centenario. The kids loved the train ride around the zoo, which was a great way to see all the animals.

This is the first playground that Pieter has visited with a real plane! Ben did a little research and it turns out that it is a rather rare type of plane, the LASA-60, of which only 18 were made in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The same model was made in Italy and a few in Argentina, and later it was modified into a taildragger and made in South Africa. It was designed by Al Mooney. This was probably a Mexican made plane in 1960. Ben remembers playing on this as a child, so it has probably been there since the 1980s.  Opa noticed (in Google earth) numerous abandoned airplanes are visible among the trees just south of the Merida terminal and airport ramp. The next time someone needs an airplane as a playground toy, that is the place to go!
