Pieter's friend Lizzy also had a birthday this weekend, so we celebrated at church together with some magnificent chocolate. I tried out another KAF recipe, Chocolate Stout Cake. The recipe was so rich, that I thought it would be best to try when we could share all those calories with everyone. I also split the batter into two cakes - one 8" and one 6" two-layer cakes. My modifications to the recipe were to reduce the sugar by 1/4 and use soft whole wheat flour. I used homemade strawberry jam that I made this summer in Michigan between the layers and on top of the smaller cake. Pomegranate seeds topped off this beautiful, rich cake.
