Tough stuff

We went to the Knoxville Raceway during our visit to Iowa. P's uncle won the use of a box for the evening, so we were able to go see the noisy cars without needing earplugs. P loved it - he couldn't get enough of the cars and noise.

Piano Time

Pieter played the piano for the first time with his cousin Micah. This video is too good to not share with you.

Cousins

Summer brings so much fun, including Opa and Oma in the US for the summer. We met up with them in Iowa and made sure our visit was complete with a visit to Jaarsma Bakery, a wonderful Dutch bakery in Pella. We stocked up on Double Salt Licorice for Papa and enjoyed a few Dutch letters. Then the real fun began with Pieter meeting up with his cousin Micah, who is three months younger. They had so much fun together! Here are a few pictures of their time together.

Big Horn Mountains

We went on P's first camping trip this past week with our friend Mary to the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming. What an amazing place this is. We decided to go to Tensleep Canyon where it was a bit warmer, instead of higher up in the snowy mountains. This was our first view of the canyon.
We camped right next to two roaring rivers, Tensleep Creek and Leigh Creek, full of snow melt. We could see the rocks in the river had lichen on them, showing just how high the water level was. Mary is the person to go camping with - she made us some lovely fires in the shadow of the limestone cliffs. We found a great campsite that wasn't too close to the creek and managed to keep P corralled for the most part.
He loved his sleeping bag!
Here are some pictures of a hike we went on. We saw many wildflowers, to be seen next time.
His first plant collection?

The greening

Today is another cool, rainy day. While that might not be as fun for Pieter and I in the yard, it sure makes a difference on the landscape. Everything here has become so green, you'd think you were in the Pacific Northwest or the British Isles. Here is a comparison for you - the first picture was take this week at the farm and the one below was taken in April. What a difference!

Hot Days

We had our first 80 degree sunny day and tried out the pool for the first time. P loved it! He was quick to pull off his cloth diaper and jump in. He loves his new sunglasses and keeps them on most of the time. Now if only I can get him to keep his hat on!

Papa's Helper

We've been spending lots of time in the yard, now that warmer weather has arrived. Pieter loves to help out with the yard work, no matter what the job.
